The three main products of their Education department – teaching material, workshops and educational museum visits – are more prominently displayed thanks to this new UX design and site architecture. Teachers can now easily find the products that are most relevant to them, regardless of their subject, year or level. Thanks to this, the amount of people using and booking their products has significantly improved.
The Education Department of Beeld & Geluid (or: Sound & Vision) long struggled with their website. The structure was all over the place, the content wasn’t tailored to their target audience (teachers) and the texts were outdated. So during my internship there, I was asked to restructure the website and update it according to the wishes and needs of their team and their target audience. Teaching material for the teachers needed to be easily accessible and the website needed to motivate them to bring their students to Beeld & Geluid for workshops and/or a visit to their museum.
Because Beeld & Geluid is a large organisation, I had to balance the wishes of a lot of stakeholders. Each team member had their own priorities on what they wanted on the website. So I had to test and brainstorm the design and content with each team member, besides of course conducting user tests with teachers, in order to find the perfect solution.
Creating new website elements in Drupal would have cost a lot of extra time for my colleagues, so I had to work with the elements that were already available on the website. That unfortunately made creating a fitting UX design a lot more restrictive and the final design definitely suffered for it. Regardless, the end result was still a massive improvement compared to what it was before, despite those restrictions.

The end result is a website that everyone in the team was really happy with. Teachers can now find the perfect workshop for their students, while they’re also cleverly motivated to combine their visit with a trip to the museum. Material for their classes is now also more easily accessible, sorted through each subject and subject matter. This way Beeld & Geluid can help teachers to educate their students in the topic of disinformation and media literacy, and help build a better digital world for all.
